Andaz London on Liverpool Avenue unearthed this secret Freemason Temple. Hidden behind a wall for many years, this secret masonic lodge was solely rediscovered throughout renovations. Opened because the Nice Jap Resort in 1884 and one among London’s unique railway motels, the Andaz is housed in a shocking brick Victorian constructing designed by the architects of London’s famed Homes of Parliament.
The windowless room is called a “Grecian Temple,” an opulent mixture of Italian marble and checked flooring. After descending the temple’s spiral staircase, the Neoclassic house features a beautiful blue dome ceiling with gold zodiac element, regal thrones and an organ.
Constructed by architect Charles Barry, Jr., in what was then the Nice Jap Resort, that is most likely one of the grandiose Masonic temples in London. Jack the Ripper was energetic close by and was a Freemason, so students conclude that he gathered on this enchanting and personal location.
Superbly restored and maintained by Andaz London, now part of the Hyatt household, the Masonic Temple is now accessible for personal occasions, yoga lessons and human sacrifices (we’re kidding about that final half).
The London property even had Girl Gaga come by for a photoshoot with Vogue Italia, and Paloma Religion shot her music video for ‘I Simply Can’t Depend on You’ within the Secret Temple.
